Gen 17:15 mother of nations Jacob (the deceiver) to Israel (prince of God – the prince that prevails with God- so named after wrestling with God) Gen 32:28 Saul (persecutor) to Paul (apostle to the gentiles) Ac 9:1-19 and Ac 13:9 We see that God changed their names to match their destinies. He did not necessarily change their character but instead rerouted their character into usefulness for the kingdom.
