1-18-14 The Giraffe Club

1-18-14 The Giraffe Club
Years ago some friends and I were sitting around talking waiting for our children to get back from a church outing.  We were discussing how we had been growing and changing in God.  One of my friends got to talking about something she had recently seen.  Somehow it got to why giraffe’s necks are so long and if I remember right some revelation God had shown her.  I don’t remember the particulars, but I do remember that we decided that the three of us were the giraffe club, because God was stretching us.  I think I even made little giraffe pins for us. I don’t know what ever happened to mine.

Recently I’ve been feeling like I’ve lost touch with who I was.

At Christmas our children’s church gave everyone a Christmas card.  Mine had a picture of 3 giraffes on the front.  All I could do was cry.  I don’t know if it was a reminder of what I felt I lost, or if God was showing me that I still belong to the club.  I like to believe that it was God encouraging me.

After I stopped crying I jotted down some notes of things that came to mind about giraffes:
·         God didn’t just stretch their necks but also their legs.  He made them tall enough to see over and walk over all obstacles put in their path
He gave them :
·         spots to camouflage them (hide them from their enemies)
·         Voices that speak in silence
·         The ability to get their food (substance) from on high

So being the person that I am, that sent me to looking up information about giraffes when I got home.  Some things that jumped out at me from the various information I read are:
·         They are even-toothed which means their weight is borne on their middle toe – what came to mind was that they are sure-footed
·         They are like cows in that they chew their food over again thereby acquiring all the nutrients    “rechew” – to ponder, acquiring all the information
·         While not habitually sociable they will travel in groups going in the same direction – help from like minded people
·         Their eyes being on each side of their head give them good all around vision – discernment – seeing all things
·         They see in color – see the beauty of the world
·         Their hearing and smell is sharp – again discernment to be aware of all things
·         They can close their nose to guard against sand storms – keeping out the things that would harm them
·         Their lips and tongue are covered in papillae to protect them against thorns that could be in their food – a way to sift out the bad things people project upon you

Lastly, they truly are stretched.  They are not born with long necks.  Their necks are elongated by disproportionate lengthening of the vertebrae not more vertebrae.

And although they are all spotted and therefore look the same, they are each individual in their coat pattern.

So join the giraffe club with me and let God stretch you to be all you were created to be.

1-18-13 Jeus in disguise

1-18-13 Jesus in disguise This is the refrain running through my head this morning – “Jesus in disguise, Jehovah passing by,” They were looking for a King they would never recognize – various lines from a song by that name by Brandon Heath.   If you look at the lyrics of the song – obviously – they were not in my head exactly right. As in the past they were looking for Messiah to come to rescue them from the oppression.   Since they were looking for him to be a certain way, they missed him when he came. In Luke 24:13 – 32 two of the disciples were walking when a man started walking beside them.   It wasn’t until he left them that they realized it was Jesus. I submit to you that Jesus appears to us in many forms.   Mt 25:35-40 says that we clothed him and fed him when we did it unto others (paraphrasing). Another line from this song says “open my eyes wide as I can, blind as I am” I can feel the Lord pretty much always, so there was a time ...

1-6-14 What is holding up your promise?

1-6-14 delay is not denial - what is holding up your promise Gen 15:16 ... the sin of the Amorites ... Gen 10:15 Sodom and Gomorrah were among the lands of the Amorites. Gen 18:20 says the people were extremely evil. 19:5 gives clear understanding as to their sin. Back to 15:16 it took four generations for the sin "to run its course" so that Abraham's descendants could return to the land they were promised. the delay in your promise may be being caused by someone/thing else occupying the space reserved for you.

1-27-16 The Water Wheel

The Water Wheel 1/27/16 I saw an image in my head of a water wheel.   You know how a water wheel is in a ditch of water.   Well there was a person trying to climb out of the water by climbing on the water wheel.   Of course every time he stepped on the wheel all he succeeded in doing was making the wheel turn and go down, back into the water.   Someone suggested turning the motor on and letting the wheel do the work. There are a couple of key points here. First is about trying to do things on our own.   And about how that is counterproductive.   You see the way a wheel works is to turn and scoop up water and then dump it onto another wheel that turns at a sideways angle in order to turn the wheels inside the house in order to grind the meal.   Therefore its movement would be in an upwards direction and when someone is trying to climb on it, they are moving it counter to its intended movement, downwards.   So doing things in our own...
