1-21-14 Where is your stronghold?

1-21-14 Where is your stronghold?
Reading today’s devotional in Charles Stanley’s Into His Presence. It is talking about David and says “David was in his stronghold… David plotted the next attack against the enemy.”

Where is your stronghold?  Where is it that you are seeking God?  Where is it that you are claiming war against the enemy?

The enemy seeks whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8).  Devour = to destroy, waste; to engulf, absorb. 1 Peter says like a lion.  A lion will tear its prey to shreds.  What does he seek to devour?  Your family, your finances, your mind, your spirit, your very soul and those of people around you.

Are you ready to take the battle into the enemy’s camp?  Have you spent time with the commander-in-chief and made a plan of attack?  Divide the troops.  Send this platoon after this enemy (i.e. homelessness), and another after a different enemy.

The devotion goes on to talk about David’s men crossing enemy lines to obtain a drink from the well that David had expressed a desire for.  Are you ready to cross enemy lines to bring back the souls that the Lord desires?  “Only God can save”, you say and you say rightly. But, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Rom 10:14) We think of preachers as the pastor of the church.  Often we think winning souls is “their job”.  A preacher is anyone who declares the gospel of Jesus Christ. Preacher = one who preaches.  Preach = to proclaim or expound upon. Any believer in Christ can proclaim Him and expound upon what He has done for them.  Your story can be the catalyst for someone else to believe. God reaps the harvest, you sow the seed.

Are you ready to draw a line in the sand and dare the enemy to cross it?  Have you prayed a hedge of protection (Hosea 2:6) around those you love?

It is time to pursue the enemy instead of him pursuing you!

In the movie Facing the Giants the coach rallies his team at half time and says that it’s time to get them(the opposing team) off their game and start playing their game (the Eagles team).  It is time to stop letting the enemy dictate how the game is going to be played!  We have the ultimate coach, the ultimate strategist.  Let Him call the shots and let us be ready to carry out the plays.

Get in a huddle with your coach today and listen to the game plays.

1-18-13 Jeus in disguise

1-18-13 Jesus in disguise This is the refrain running through my head this morning – “Jesus in disguise, Jehovah passing by,” They were looking for a King they would never recognize – various lines from a song by that name by Brandon Heath.   If you look at the lyrics of the song – obviously – they were not in my head exactly right. As in the past they were looking for Messiah to come to rescue them from the oppression.   Since they were looking for him to be a certain way, they missed him when he came. In Luke 24:13 – 32 two of the disciples were walking when a man started walking beside them.   It wasn’t until he left them that they realized it was Jesus. I submit to you that Jesus appears to us in many forms.   Mt 25:35-40 says that we clothed him and fed him when we did it unto others (paraphrasing). Another line from this song says “open my eyes wide as I can, blind as I am” I can feel the Lord pretty much always, so there was a time ...

1-6-14 What is holding up your promise?

1-6-14 delay is not denial - what is holding up your promise Gen 15:16 ... the sin of the Amorites ... Gen 10:15 Sodom and Gomorrah were among the lands of the Amorites. Gen 18:20 says the people were extremely evil. 19:5 gives clear understanding as to their sin. Back to 15:16 it took four generations for the sin "to run its course" so that Abraham's descendants could return to the land they were promised. the delay in your promise may be being caused by someone/thing else occupying the space reserved for you.

1-27-16 The Water Wheel

The Water Wheel 1/27/16 I saw an image in my head of a water wheel.   You know how a water wheel is in a ditch of water.   Well there was a person trying to climb out of the water by climbing on the water wheel.   Of course every time he stepped on the wheel all he succeeded in doing was making the wheel turn and go down, back into the water.   Someone suggested turning the motor on and letting the wheel do the work. There are a couple of key points here. First is about trying to do things on our own.   And about how that is counterproductive.   You see the way a wheel works is to turn and scoop up water and then dump it onto another wheel that turns at a sideways angle in order to turn the wheels inside the house in order to grind the meal.   Therefore its movement would be in an upwards direction and when someone is trying to climb on it, they are moving it counter to its intended movement, downwards.   So doing things in our own...
